Gallery Icon - Live Traffic Conditions

Posted by OneMap | Saturday, March 12, 2011 | Category: |

This is the 3rd installment of the Gallery Icon series, which features some of the services developed by private companies using OneMap.

Today, we look at Quantum Inventions' Live Traffic Conditions service. :)

Guess this must be one of the more popular services that users of OneMap would be delighted to have, especiall those who drive, because it has some pretty cool functions that allow users to view live traffic conditions to plan their routes.

In the OneMap map portal, select the 'Live Traffic Condition' option under the Gallery icon to go to Quantum Inventions' http://www.livetraffic.sg/ website.

Zoom in using the zooming tool at the side of the map to see the traffic conditions of roads across Singapore. There are also standard forms for you to search for location and driving routes on the left of the website. Special options such as ERP Aware and Traffic Aware enables the user to choose routes that avoid traffic or ERP gantries. :)

Users can toggle between layers of the map. The picture above shows the kind of map you would expect to see if you turn on the Traffic layer. Roads highlighted in green, yellow and red suggests the traffic flow is smooth, moderate and heavy respectively. Now you know which are the roads to avoid during certain periods of the day!

If you turn on the indicent layer, you can see where are the road incidents happening, be it heavy traffic jams or car accidents. The list of incidents will also be listed down on the left of the map. Users can also click on the incident icons to know the nature of the accident and the lanes to avoid. If you know of an incident not displayed on the map, you can also click on the report incident option to report it. :)

The ERP layer is also a very useful one! You don't have to know the exact road name where you want to find out more information on the rates to pay, just view it on the map, click on it to find out the rates you have to pay to pass the gantry!

All information are certainly up to date, with accurate base map layer provided by OneMap and raw traffic data from LTA. :)

So next time you want to find out live traffic conditions, you know where you should be going to!
