BUS AND MRT ROUTING IS AVAILABLE NOW ON ONEMAP!

Posted by OneMap | Wednesday, December 8, 2010 | Category: , |

Apologies for the full caps title for today's blog post if you feel that it is extremely distracting but TeamOneMap is just too excited and happy for ourselves! And yes, we want you to take notice of this bold and attention seeking title because we have got good things in store for all our beloved OneMap users. :)

As the title suggests, we have rolled out the beta version public transport routing service, powered by TransitLink! Hooray!!!

It must have been a long wait for some of you yearning for this feature to be included in OneMap but we hope this wait is worthwhile. Now you do not have to toggle between two web map services to find out how to get to a place in OneMap.

Let's check this out!

Step 1:

Select 'Get Directions' and type in your starting location and destination. After you are done, click 'Go'. You will see, apart from the usual single private transport route, we have the new 'Bus' and 'Bus/MRT' options.

Step 2:

Select 'Bus/MRT' if you wish to travel via bus, MRT or a combination of both.

Step 3:

Once you clicked 'Go', another widget will pop up for you to indicate the maximum walking distance. We have 400m, 500m and 600m. (This must be good news for people who do not like to walk too much.) You can just check the next box to allow the system to determine the bus stops for you (The system should be smart enough to detect the nearest bus stops for you! Haha...) When all these are done, click 'Go' again.

Step 4:

The next screen will show you the bus route solution! Besides that, you can view the detailed route, cost and time information of your journey. How easy and convenient is that!

Step 5:

That is not all. You can click on the down arrow to see if there is more than 1 solution for your specified destination. In this demo, we have three solutions from Revenue House to Marina Square and the third one happens to be the MRT route. Beside that, click on the 'Notes' button and you can read some of the assumptions we made for the calculation of routes.

Once more, we are proud to bring you this new service, powered by TransitLink. :)

Your feedback and usage of OneMap is the driving force that would spur us to create more services and source for more thematic layers. Thank you so much! (Sounds like a cliche thank you speech in award ceremonies but we are seriously, happy to be of service to you!)
