Another week has gone by and we are back to introduce you to another OneMap Challenge application. Our feature app for this week is NearbyTutors.sg!

Are you a private tutor having problems finding tuition assignments near your location? Or are you a student who wants to get a tutor near your house? With Nearbytutors.sg, your problems can be solved! This web application is different from your typical tuition assignment website because tutors and students are not only able to search matching subjects and fees, they can also search via location... and the best part of it all, the tutor listings are all mapped onto OneMap base map so users can easily visualise the locations!

At the Nearbytutors.sg page, users can see the tutor listings panel on the left with a very big OneMap base map on the right.


Say for example, a student wants to know if there are any tutors staying in the Sengkang area on the listing, he/she can just zoom into Sengkang and the listing would automatically be updated based on the tutors available from the zoom extent of the map.


Then the student can click on the icons on the map to view more details of the tutor and the tuition subject offered.


The selected icon will be highlighted on the left panel and upon clicking on the "View Listing" button, more details such as the contact number and a short description of the tutor will be displayed.


Users can also key in their criteria first before locating the tutor on the map. Just click on the "search" tab on the listing panel and type in the criteria. Under the keywords form, you may wish to specify a location so the search can also display results of locations with the word.


After you are done, click on "Update Map" and if your search yields a result, it will be displayed on the map. :)
