PublicTransport@SG's Interactive OneMap! [Part 1]

Posted by OneMap | Wednesday, December 14, 2011 | Category: , , , |

Yes! We have not forgotten what we promised in the last blog post on Traffic.Smart... and today, TeamOneMap will be talking about the public transport map service provided by LTA! (Gotta be fair to both private and public commuters right?)

Once you are in the PublicTransport@SG site (www.publictransport.sg), click on the interactive map icon at the top banner to access the map based public transport info service.

As with most map services, the location search function is always there. Just type in the postal code, road name or building name that you want to find out and the map will zoom in to your desired area. The green pins here do not give users location details via a pop up but the search form box will display the full address of the place.

Once you zoom into the searched location, you can check out all the information tied to the nearby bus stops and MRT stations. For example, we have clicked a bus icon near Revenue House, we can see the bus stop number, the road name, bus stop description and bus services.

That is not all, all the bus services are hyperlinked! Click on any of the bus service number and a new pop up will display exactly what you would see at bus stop information boards - the detailed route of the bus service, frequency range, arrival times and distance fares.

The "View Road Index" hyperlink is also found on the information boards, telling commuters the roads that all the buses at the bus stop will be going to.

And also, the "View Fare Table" shows users the fares to be paid according to the distance traveled.

Similarly, users can click on the MRT icons to view the station name and number.

Clicking on the hyperlinked station numbers will show users the MRT line that the train is traveling at and in this instance, it is the North South Line.

The "Directions" hyperlink shows you the information of the different exits at the station and where can these exits lead commuters to. The information is displayed as a pop up box at the top left corner of the map.

In the next post, we shall talk about selecting bus services, interchanges and MRT stations as well as some public transport information not found anywhere else! So stay tune for part 2 of the series! :)
