We're back and we've got good news for our readers! Another service on OneMap was launched - the BusRouteExplorer by Land Transport Authority and TransitLink.
1st question that comes to the mind: Hmm... Why do we have a public transport routing service and now we have another BusRouteExplorer service which sounds kinda similar?
Well, they are actually not quite the same, let's see what the BusRouteExplorer has got to offer. :)
As always, navigate to the Service Icon and you should see the BusRouteExplorer service parked under it.
Click on it and a widget on the right will pop up. Click accept to accept the terms and conditions. Once done, you will see a "Select Bus Service" drop down box where users can select any bus services available in Singapore... This is impressive...
Say for example, I wish to find out the bus route for bus service number 197 and where the bus stops are. I can select 197 and then view where are all the bus stops on the 197 route from both directions.
Once done, click view route and you can see a line on the map with lots of blue dots. Look nowhere but the legend at the bottom of the widget... the orange line represents the route that the bus will take while the blue dots are where the bus stops are located. :)
Tip: No worries if you cannot see the bus stops, just zoom in close enough and you can see the bus stop locations, just like this:
Here's another bonus! Previously, when you click on the bus stop symbol, it will only display a pop up showing the bus services available at the stop. Now, the bus services are click-able! Just click on any of the numbers and the BusRouteExplorer widget will pop up too!
So, the main difference is that this service shows the bus stops plus routes of the bus services while the public transport routing service is mainly for routing purposes (which includes the MRTs as well)
Next episode we shall see how users can make use of the calculate fares option... So stay tune!
