Monopoly Place Names in Singapore!

Posted by OneMap | Sunday, September 18, 2011 | Category: |

Which one of these Monopoly place names (UK edition) cannot be found in Singapore?

a. Piccadilly
b. Northumberland
c. Euston Road
d. Oxford Street
e. Park Lane

Sometimes the weirder and unfamiliar names are actually real place names in Singapore! Ok, first of all, why such a question? One of TeamOneMap's members went for his annual in-camp training and the camp is located at a place called "Piccadilly"! This reminded us of a place name in the Monopoly game so many of us love to play, which is also named "Piccadilly".

Ok, so you can strike off option a. as the incorrect answer... To find out which place/road name is actually not found in Singapore, do a search in the OneMap portal and let us know the answer!

It is kinda interesting to learn about the history and facts behind the road and place names in Singapore as we got most of them from various historical origins. The study of place names is called toponymy (for your general knowledge) and we are sure OneMap is a good place to key in your search to find if someone told you the name of a place you have never heard before! ;)

What are the other interesting place names you have come across? Do share with us in facebook or the comments section below! Let us provide one. There is a road name called "Kay Poh Road" (Nosey Road). Don't believe us? Check OneMap to verify it! Haha...
