Rain rain, go away, come again another day!

RAIN! RAIN! ARRRRGGGHHH!!!!

Amazingly, no one's first thought was Korean heartthrob Rain when we mention about the word "rain" because, it was raining cats and dogs for the past few days!

It was kinda like a major inconvenience to many people, considering this is the last weekend before Chinese New Year and people are rushing to places to buy stuff.

So what has the rain got to do with OneMap? The Public Utilities Board (PUB) has created a water level sensor service using OneMap as the base map!

Do you know that you can check the water level of 90 selected canals and drains all across Singapore? You can view this information via a map in this link: http://www.pub.gov.sg/general/Pages/WaterLevel.aspx

At the time that TeamOneMap is writing this post, all the water levels have already dropped to less than 50% full, which is great! Considering we seldom experience this kind of long torrential and our drainage system is still able to handle it! :)

Let's take a look at how this water level sensor looks like on the map.

Yay! All green all clear! No yellow or red icons which would indicate a potential threat for flooding.

We can click on the an icon and view more information of the canal or drain.

In this example, we can see a zoomed in image of the location as well as a timeline showing the water level of the drain or canal, with 4 lines indicating the current water level and the 3 categories of flood risk.

Right now, all we can hope is for the rain to stop for a while (and try not to come back during Chinese New Year)... We miss the sun so much!
