11th GITEX Forum on 11/11/2010

The GITEX (GeoSpatial Information and Technology Exchange) Forum was held on the 11th of November at the Treasury Auditorium (see location), which was just a few days ago! It was in a way, an auspicious date and event to me 11th GITEX on 11 / 11 / 2010... a triple 11!

For those of you who are thinking "Er... what is this?!?!", well, this is a forum organised to inform the GIS community about the latest development in the GeoSpatial industry in Singapore! Held once every few months, guest speakers from the public and private sector will be there to present on topics related to GIS. This forum is opened to the public and the best thing is... FREE FOOD! Yes, something many people look forward too! Light refreshment is provided at the interval of the forum.

My office desk (stacked with feedback forms, handouts etc) before we move out to the forum venue!
Few hectic days prior to the forum as my desk and inbox are flooded with all kinds of GITEX stuff. For once, I dare to say I have the messiest table and the most utilised Microsoft Outlook in the whole department!

Setting up of the 2m tall banner! (No easy feat!)
This banner is certainly heavy! Or at least the box containing this is heavy. Due to our not-so-fantastic height, we needed the help of a chair to climb up to the top of the steel structure to stick the banner canvas. However, the banner looks impressive and definitely attention grabbing!

Our department out in full force to ensure a smooth registration time.
The guys 'wrestled' with the huge GITEX banner while the ladies sorted out the name tags we printed out for our participants. Again, with over 160 registered participants, it was not as easy as it seemed but they got it all done in a matter of minutes!

Now you see it (the empty seats).
It is a very nice and cozy auditorium to be in but I am sure our participants would be well awake with our list of interesting GeoSpatial topics lined up for them.

Now you don't!
In the end, it was a nearly filled auditorium with so many people anticipating what our guest speakers were going to present.

One of our guest speakers, Mr. Max Chua talking on stage
My sincere apologies that the food pictures are not captured! Was too busy networking and catching up with old friends that I even forgot to eat... :(

For those who missed the chance to attend, perhaps it would be good for me to reveal the list of guest speakers and their topics. There you go:

Mr. Bill Shepherd (ESRI Inc.) - Web-based, cloud-based GIS
Mr. Ang Wee Leng (ESRI Singapore) - What's new in ArcGIS 10?
Mr. Matthew Smith (Leica Geosystems) - Network RTK; Maximising the benefits
Mr. Max Chua (GeoEye) - Introduction to EyeQ

Hope these topics are 'mouth-watering' enough for you to enquire more on future GITEX forum!

For those who were there, see you all in the next forum!
