OneMap.sg: PublicTransport@SG's Interactive OneMap! [Part 2]

Posted by OneMap | Wednesday, December 21, 2011 | Category: , , , , |

We are back for part 2 of the PublicTransport@SG service guide! Today we shall talk about selecting bus services, bus interchanges, MRT/LRT stations as well as one the "Park and Ride" initiative.

Instead of exploring public transport facilities near a searched location, some commuters may just want to view the routes and the locations of buses and MRT/LRT stations. You can do so by selecting the different options from the 4 drop down boxes below the search form.

For example, we have selected bus service number 30 from the "Select Bus Service" drop down box. The route will be generated and displayed on the map.

The bus stops that bus service 30 will pass by will also be generated at the bottom of the map interface. Simply click on any hyperlinked bus stop number and the map will zoom to the bus stop.

You can also do the same for both the bus interchanges and MRT/LRT stations.

As mentioned before, there are also information unavailable anywhere except here and one of them is the "Park and Ride" information! Under the "Other Information" drop down box, click on "Park and Ride"option and you will see quite a few icons like this:

Zoom in the map and at zoom level 6 (ie: zoom in the map 6 times), you can see that there are dark blue lines linking nearby car parks to MRT stations. These are the "Park and Ride" walking routes (see legend below the map). As the name suggests, this initiative is to inform commuters of cheaper alternatives to get to work (assuming that commuters are traveling towards the CBD area to work).

So you can park your vehicle at the nearest car park and take a train ride to work! What's more, by clicking to find out more, you can also see the monthly and annual estimated cost savings. :)

There's more to come though! Stay tune for our next update!
